Regeneration – The Sheffield Project 1981 ~ 1991

To coincide with Museums Sheffield’s exhibition, Photographs of a Changing City, MM Design worked with curator Matthew Conduit, to design the exhibition catalogue. Published by Untitled Print Studio to coincide with the exhibition opening at Western Park Museum, the publication features the work of all photographers and artists involved, together with insightful statements about their images and experiences of working in the city at that time.

MM Design presented design concepts that reflected the post industrial times in which the changing city was documented. Design proposals were developed to achieve an understated context, enabling the work and related artists’ texts to breathe on the page. MM Design also worked with curator Matthew Conduit at Untitled Print Studio on ensuring accurate colour matching between the photographs in the exhibition and the images within the publication, paper stock options for the cover and contents, and a de-bossing feature to house the hand mounted front cover image by Anna Fox.

MM Design were a huge source of support in putting this exhibition and publication together. Not only did they design the beautiful publication, but they designed all the exhibition graphics and instigated the production of an online 3D tour of the show, which kept the whole project alive through Covid. The book and the 3D tour are now lasting testaments to this great project.
